CONQUER YOURSELF - A must read

Hi Everyone, this post is a good one, I found it from some book, a must read!!!!!

"Everyone has limits. But we never know our limits, until our skills have been put to test. Never say:”This is all I can do, unless you’ve tried to do it”. Do you know that humans use only 10 % of their brain? While much more you can do. You have the resources. You just need to find it and the first place to look into is within yourself.

Our skills double, when we face danger. Then we see, hear, smell and move faster. It shows that we are capable to act and do much more than we think. We are just too afraid at times. But what are we afraid of? Are we afraid, we may actually find our true strengths? Or is it, we just need to be pushed to find our true potential.

“What is the most Universal human characteristic: fear, or laziness?”

Some of us arent afraid. We just arent bothered. ‘So what’? are the two most dangerous accountabe words. “So What, I’m weak? So what, I am not using my abilities to their best?” These are questions that can never be answered. But think about it a while; if everyone starts asking you the same questions, how will you feel? If all the great leaders fuss ‘So what, the country is unhappy?’, if your grocer yells ‘So what, you’re hungry?’ if your garbage collector tells ‘So what, your home is dirty?’; pointing their fingers to you, how you sense?

Replace that acidic “So What?” with the hopeful “What if?”

“What if you become someone great worth remebering?”

“What if you can make people proud of you?”

The thing that’s worse than quitting or failing is being complacent. Beleiving that you are weak and that’s all you are capable of. When you start to say,”This is the way I am and there’s nothing I can do about it”, that is when you hit rock bottom. No one can help you in such a situation. Even the skills that you’ve mastered will be a waste with such an attitude. Beleive in yourself, and only then you can expect others to beleive in you.

Start to care. Even if no one else does care for you. The last person to give up on you should be yourself."

Action 2020

On behalf of India Vision group, an UnConference titled Action 2020 was held at Chennai on Saturday the 17th Jan 2009.  One hundred young professionals and students representing 35 social service organisations participated.  These organisations are already silently doing great service to the society.  They already into more than 500 projects benefiting more than 1.50 lakh beneficiaries, involving funds outlay of 50 lakhs.

In the morning Dr Y S Rajan, co-author of the book India 2020 with Dr Kalam interacted with participants on phone.  In the evening, Dr Abdul Kalam interacted with them on phone and answered the questions from youth.  A detailed report is available in the following links.

http://www.action2020.co.cc/2009/01/action2020-unconference-brief-report.html

The text of the speech by Dr Abdul Kalam is given below:

“It doesn’t matter who you are,

You will achieve if you work for it”.

“Plant a tree and plant an idea”

Dear members of “Action 2020 - UnConference 2009” organized by the India Vision Group and the 35 partner organizations who are working on bringing societal transformation through achievers, intellectuals and other contributors, my greetings to all of you.  I am very happy to communicate with all of you telephonically, when you have assembled at Chennai and discussing on how to achieve Vision 2020 with peoples’ participation.

On 15 Jan 2009, I inaugurated the Youth Meet at Pune and interacted with nearly 1500 youth. The theme, I selected for the youth was, “the ignited minds of the youth is the most powerful resource, on the earth, above the earth and under the earth”. Here it was important to remember, the powerful call given by Swami Vivekananda “how has all the knowledge in the world been gained but by the concentration of the power of the mind? The world is ready to give up its secret if we only know, how to knock, how to give it the necessary blow. The strength and force of the blow come through concentration. There is no limit to the power of the human mind. The more concentrated it is, the more power is brought to bear on one point that is the secret”

When I put forth this thought to the young, there was tremendous enthusiasm and the youth repeated the statement. Then I brought out the power of three great minds:

  1. “It doesn’t matter who you are, you will achieve if you work for it”.  Mario Capecchi – a street boy becomes a noble prize winner in 2007 for his remarkable work on Gene targeting which can be used to cure diseases such as cancer.

  2. Failure didn’t deter him. Srinivasa Ramanujam with his best capability generated his own equations and became an expert in number theory. He failed in his FA Exam, but he didn’t bother.  Mathematics became his friend. He saw divinity associated with each number. He became a renowned number theorist and a great mathematician recognized by the world of mathematics including Royal society.

  3. “Plant a tree and plant an idea” - Prof Wangari Maathai had a passion for environment and bio-diversity and has been contributing to the sustainable development and growth of planet Earth through tree plantation. She has been instrumental in getting 31 million trees planted in 20 countries in African region. She won the Nobel Prize for this unique contribution of environmental upgradation. With these three thoughts, “It doesn’t matter who you are, you will achieve if you work for it”.  “Failure didn’t deter him” and “Plant a tree and plant an idea” the 1500 youth at Pune were fully ignited; they were all asking tell us, what we can give? I asked the audience, why don’t you young boys and girls share your experience. One girl got up and introduced herself, she is from rural Maharashtra. She said, Mr. Kalam, let me share with you what myself and my classmates have done. There is a hospital in our small town, where the entire place is dirty and the patients are not at all cared for. Seeing the situation, the student community decided to go to the hospital once in a week, to clean up the entire place including toilets. And we also provide necessary help to the patients, such as: communicating with their relatives, drying their clothes, bringing the medicines, giving them a feeling of cheer by talking to them. What a noble mission?

Series of questions came in after words. What the youth can do to remove the corruption? was one of the question. Here I gave my experience at Adichunchunagari Mutt, when I addressed 50,000 students and 1000’s of parents in the presence of spiritual leaders and political leaders in 2005. After my address on vision 2020, one girl Bhavani got up, she said, she is studying bio-science in 10+1, and she would like to know from me and the leaders sitting on the dais, what actions youth should do to remove corruption, so that we can live in a corruption free society. The funds allotted for development can reach the citizens fully. Answer to this question really was not coming forth from any quarters, but I had to answer. I told, dear Bhavani, your question is very important in the present context of the nation. You know, we are one billion population. We live in 200 million homes. It is estimated that 30% of the homes may be corrupt, that means 60 million homes are corrupt. Each home has on an average   5 members: Father, mother, two sons + one daughter or parents + two daughters + one son. Now I have got a question for you Bhavani. In case your parents, particularly your father is unfortunately corrupt, will you go to your father and say “Father, please stop corruption - Our scriptures will not allow that, our teacher taught us” Will you say this to your father? There was pin drop silence. Then a surprise. Nearly all the children got up, they all said in chorus, we can do it. We will stop our parents if they are corrupt. I couldn’t believe this. Of course, I turned to parents where 1000’s of them were sitting. I particularly asked the mothers. How will you react to your daughter or son coming to you and saying that you should stop corrupt actions. After some thought, the mother gave the following statement:

“Mr. Kalam, so far no one has asked such a directed question. But I want to tell you one thing on behalf of womanhood that “Daughter or son, have got a unique relationship with parents. They have a great and grand tool that is mutual love and affection. If our child comes and tells us that we are corrupt, it is a great insult to me and my husband. We have to change, we have to change, we have to change. Then the whole gathering took an oath. “I will lead an honest life free from all corruption and will set an example for others to adopt a transparent way of life”.

I asked the youth of Pune on 15 Jan 2009, what is your reaction? They said, we would like to take the same oath and abide by it. The entire hall reverberated when they took the oath. Then I realized the vision 2020 of transforming India into a developed nation definitely will succeed with such a committed youth power. I would like Mr. Prime Point Srinivasan; you may kindly see my website www.abdulkalam.com and click PURA as a business proposition. Here many successful operational PURAs in different parts of the country has been describe. Our young participants can definitely create such sustainable rural development model in their own area which will accelerate the realization of our development vision 2020.

India - A Developed Country by 2020

Every Indian believes that India would become a developed country by 2020.Thanks to our beloved Abdul Kalam for cultivating his vision in our minds. But do we have any project plan to achieve his vision. I dont think that we have any definitive plan or road map for this.
I've identified some core areas which we need to focus in the next decade to become a developed nation.

Here we go :

Agriculture

Agriculture is the backbone of our country.Over 60% of the country's population employed in agriculture.Hence Agriculture plays a major role in the overall development of a country. Most of the country's agriculture population depends on monsoon or natural rainfall. We are seeing regularly that when one part of country affected by excessive floods the other parts suffered by severe drought. How we are going to solve this issue? One solution might be the interlinking of rivers across India. But there are practical difficulties in implementing the integration of rivers at one shot. We can do this by interlinking the rivers within the state, then between the neighbouring states and finally across the country. We can also take a leaf out of the countries like Denmark, Newzealand etc for implementing the efficient techniques to the growth of agriculture.Agriculture plays a major role
in the overall GDP of these countries.

Education
Education plays a major role in shaping a country's future. Our government should strive to improve the quality of basic education given to the students in ru
ral areas. How long are we going to say that so many Indians are working in Nasa, Microsoft, Google etc? Let us say that so many foreigners are working in our Indian organizations like ISRO, HAL etc.
We have to invite bright students from US, Europe and other countries to learn in our universities by improving the quality of our education
al institutions .In this way we can utilize all the brightest Indian minds of India.

Healthcare
Most of the people living in rural parts of India struggle with the public health care system as its minimal or non existant in the villages. Due to commercial gains the health care system is concentrating on cities and urbanized places. We have got world class hospitals with excellent doctors which attracts the millions of patients outside of the country. But we are not able to provide a basic health care system to our citizens. Our goverment along with the private health care institutions should provide a accessible public health care system to the rural people at free of cost. The strength of India lies in its Human Resources and our goverment responsibility is to take care of it well.Lets make India a healthy nation by 2020.

Infrastructure
I think this is one of the most discussed topic in the last couple of years. Infrastructure means providing best environment like roadways, airports, bridges, clean water, electricity, sewages etc to the citizens of a country. This not only improve the quality of living but also bring more foreign investments to the country.Infrastructure is like fuel for the fast growing nation like India. According to Businessweek "The infrastructure deficit in india is so critical that it could prevent India from achieving the prosperity that finally seems to be within its grasp. Without reliable power and water and a modern transportation network, the chasm between India's moneyed elite and its 800 million poor will continue to widen, potentially destabilizing the country".

Others

Apart from the above areas there are certain things that we need to give importance. One is the transparency in our political system like western countries. This will prevent the corruption which is hindering the growth of our country.

Second one is protecting and nurturing our culture which dates back to millions of years ago.No one will deny that globalization and libralization have changed our cultural values. There are both postive and negative things in globalization and we should try to accompany the positive things of it without affecting our values.

Development along with our cultural values will take our nation to greater heights.

Let us say "Tomorrow is Ours "

What should we do?

Something cracked inside all of us on the 26th of November 2008. Rage that we have repeatedly been betrayed by a system that is meant to guarantee the physical security of every Indian. In the last few years, it has been apparent that no place is safe any longer…places of worship, markets, even hospitals, now hotels: the terrorist has struck with increasing audacity.

Rich and poor, Hindu and Muslim, north Indian and south Indian, no one has been spared. With every attack, there is debate, there are platitudes, there is hand-wringing. What the Indian citizen is looking for is action and answers, action that is constructive and will make it that much more difficult for the merchants of terror to operate. Then whether it be Malegaon or Mumbai, Ajmer or Ahmedabad, there is a need for unity of purpose. Terror is a national challenge, not a partisan project .We feel it is necessary to use the power of the media and take the initiative to involve citizens in the search for answers. We are angry, but let this not be impotent rage for once. Let’s act now, before it is too late. Become a citizen against terror.

People forget. It is in our nature. Years later, the details get fuzzy, the sequences get mixed-up and re-imagining the horror does not evoke the same sharp feelings of grief and anger. We move on. That is human nature. But moving on this time round isn’t going to be easy. The brutality of the Mumbai attacks has left us, above all, deeply vulnerable. It has exposed the rottenness in our system; our intelligence agencies, our police force, our political leaders and even our media. And that is why the appropriate response to this terror attack isn’t sadness or outrage. We need to secure our country. And we need to do it now. As a nation, we are sensing this – just look at the endless candle vigils, the large shows of solidarity and the signing of various petitions. But we need to do more. We need to rise over the ineptitude of our system and fix lasting solutions. Only when each of us applies ourselves, will solutions flow – and transformation begin. We need to make sure that the kind of terror that November 26th brought into our homes and our lives must not ever be repeated. Only then would we have truly moved on.

Action has to be taken immediately if we are to prevent such further atrocities. The Police Force must be strengthened and taught to handle more sophisticated weapons. The police profession must be made lucrative so that more people can join in. NSG centres must be set up in all the major cities like Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. Precious lives could have been saved if the NSG had not taken so long to arrive. Also a federal agency to deal with terror must be set up that is free of bureaucracy of our government and must be headed by the army or the intelligence. The coast guard must be strengthened and strong security must be given to public and vulnerable places like railway stations and markets.

If we stop terrorism in future, we need extra awareness about terrorism. So governing body of India will create a Separate Ministry Like Anti terrorism ministry and the new security Task force which has announced By PM will be the part of that ministry. But the minister and other members should have some qualification others than our existing Politicians for example the cabinet minister should have some military experience.

I feel our constitution and political system is responsible. We have allowed politicians to use this democracy to their advantage. We should have following agenda 1. At a country level, candidates should be elected for the post of prime minister. I mean we should not have party base system. If you want to become prime minister then let people of this country decide whether you deserve to be prime minister or not. Same procedure should be applicable for other important portfolios like home, defence and at state level also. Lets elect people above party lines to run this country. We should have eligibility criteria for politician. What I understand today politics is a profession it’s not a social service. In a profession there are certain criteria. We can’t allow people like rabri devi or rahul gandhi just because she is a wife and he is son of politicians to run this country. You should have something, which allows us to accept you. Do something great at the root level. You can become chief minister only if you are eligible in terms of criteria- like education, age. A person who has police record can’t apply for central /state govt job, similarly a politician (profession) can’t apply if he has police record. If you are given an opportunity to run this country for a period and you fail to do (you have to leave the position before your period) then you will not be eligible for any state benefits, which are given to statesmen. Since gratuity can’t be paid before five years under the law. You should have interim report card system. We shall lay down agenda. We should ask candidates if you want to run this country then whether you can fulfill this agenda or not and what is the time frame. If you can’t what will be penalty.

A very strict security system, like “HOMELAND SECURITY” in the US. Clarifying responsibilities across all levels of the government to upgrade our system and infrastructure that together constitute to our nations security. A disaster management system to assess the potential hazards, the after effects of a terrorist attack and to supply resources to all security forces and the intelligence bureau. A sense of preparedness needs to be developed among all levels of the society-including citizens, public and private. A security system that works on guidance, planning, strategy and management. Increase patrols varying in size, timing and routes. Track all malicious or threat calls. Take all the calls very seriously and record all the necessary information required pinning down the caller. To equip our army and the police with ammunitions to tackle professional terrorists like that of MUMBAI TERRORIST ATTACK. State police should be given training like that of the army, so that they can handle a terrorist attack in the absence of the army. Like we have seen the terrorists are using the sea route, so there should be constant patrolling by the navy and the coast guards. Layouts of all five star hotels, banks, heritage sites, government offices and corporate offices should be handed over to our security forces, the intelligence bureau and RAW. X-ray all packages prior to entry into any office or hotel. And inspect handbags of every single individual, which includes all the VIP’s as well. Engage local informants for more information on terrorist activities in their respective states and union territories. Ensuring adequate security forces like NSG and ARMY in all the states and union territories, to avoid delay. This is all about the ground defence. If we have an air attack. SAM (surface to air missile) installations should be put across all the major facilities across the country, SAM tracks down any hostile aircraft and its surface to air missile can bring down a target 100 kms away. And this should be sustained throughout the year. Car parked outside any major facility should provide all the documents to the concerned authorities. All illegally parked vehicles in and around facilities should be moved immediately. If possible get the car and its owner under custody.

One cannot always prevent disaster, but we can always plan ahead to mitigate its effect. Why should we single out this one man made act of disaster to be focus of our attention. Are the people who die in say Bihar floods less alive? The answer thus is being ready at all times. Govt should form a crisis management network for the whole country. Every district has a right to have one nerve center dedicated to this. It should comprise of a strategic planner, a doctor and a social worker.

To make investigation agencies as independent of the political system with their salaries being charged directly on the constitution of India just like the election commission. There should be a campaign popularizing the safety measures that should be taken while facing a terrorist attack. Security must be enhanced of strategically, historically, economically and culturally important places. Separate provisions for fighting terrorism should be made in the budge, fifthly a drive to clean up the slums and remove poverty should be carried out because generally these places can acts safe havens for the terrorists and also such people may more easily fall prey to any lures offered to them by the terrorists. Further, border security must be made more coordinated among the various wings of security agents also at international level there should be an effort to put jointed pressure on countries involved in terrorist activities.

While terrorism should be tackled by mind and heart i.e. diplomacy, intelligence, the terrorist needs to be tackled physically by arms. Protect our protectors i.e. Police, NSG, and other security agencies by equipping them with the best arms, bulletproof jackets and helmets. This should be the top priority, and dealt with immediately. Top class training for the entire civil security. Higher pay scales so they do not indulge in corruption. No political interference. Politician involved in defence, home security should be professionals either from police or armed forces. He/she (yes, why not could be a woman) or she should have direct access to prime minister, president and the chiefs of air, land, and sea forces. He/she should also undergo some kind of regular training so he / she understands the needs and upgrades the system. So definitely young and fit person.

Hi guys, Yes we can, I found some of the sites which will make our dreams of  Developed India a reality, Please participate in them.

Save India..We can help our country.

U CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO THE INDIAN ECONOMY BY FOLLOWING FEW SIMPLE STEPS.

Please spare a couple of minutes here... for the sake of India ... our country.

I got this article from one of my friend, but it's true, I can see this from day to day life,

Small example,
Before 5 months 1 USA $ = IND Rs 34.58
After 5 months. Now it is 1 USA $ = IND Rs 50.37

Do you think Canadian Economy is booming? No, but Indian Economy is Going Down.

Our Economy is in u'r hands
INDIAN economy is in a crisis. Our country like many other ASIAN countries is undergoing a severe economic crunch. Many INDIAN industries are closing down. The INDIAN economy is in a crisis and if we do not take proper steps to control those, we will be in a critical situation.

More than 30000 crore rupees of foreign exchange are being siphoned out of our country on products such as cosmetics, snacks, tea, beverages.... etc which are grown, produced and consumed here.

A cold drink that costs only 70 / 80 paisa to produce is sold for NINE rupees, and a major chunk of profits from these are sent abroad. This is a serious drain on INDIAN economy.

We have nothing against Multinational companies, but to protect our own interests we request everybody to use INDIAN products only for next two years. With the rise in petrol prices, if we do not do this, the rupee will devalue further and we will end up paying much more for the same products in the near future.

What you can do about it?
1. Buy only products manufactured by WHOLLY INDIAN COMPANIES.
2. ENROLL as many people as possible for this cause.

Each individual should become a leader for this awareness.

This is the only way to save our country from severe economic crisis. You don't need to give-up your lifestyle. You just need to choose an alternate product. All categories of products are available from WHOLLY INDIAN COMPANIES.

Hi guys, this one is a good song, I found in some site.

SONG OF YOUTH:
As a young citizen of India,
Armed with technology, knowledge and love for my nation,
I realize, small aim is a crime.

I will work and sweat for a great vision,
The vision of transforming India into a developed nation
powered by economic strength with value system.

I am one of the citizen of a billion,
Only the vision will ignite the billion souls.
It has entered into me,
the ignited soul compared to any resource,
is the most powerful resource
on the earth, above the earth and under the earth.

I will keep the lamp of knowledge burning
to achieve the vision- DEVELOPED INDIA.

Lets come together to make India a stronger nation.

Nothing is Impossible

Hi guys, this is a nice one, found it in www.abdulkalam.com.

Human flight is nothing but creativity of human mind and it undergoes several struggles to achieve excellence. In 1895, a great well-known scientist Lord Kelvin, who was the President of Royal Society of London said, "any thing heavier than air cannot fly, and cannot be flown." Within a decade, Wright Brothers proved man could fly of course at heavy risk and cost.

On the successful completion of Moon Mission in 1969, Von Braun, a very famous rocket designer, who built Saturn-V, to launch the capsule with astronauts and made moon walk a reality, in 1975 said "If I am authorized, I will remove the word impossible".

In ancient days, Ptolemaic astronomy is a widely used system in calculating the dynamics of various stars and planets. Assumption by then was that the earth is flat. What a scientific struggle had to take place to prove that the earth is spherical in shape orbiting around the sun. The three great astronomers Copernicus, Galileo and Kepler had to give a new dimension to the world of astronomy. Today we take it for granted that earth is a globe, orbiting around the sun, and the sun orbits in the Milky Way. All the technological advancements we have today are the outcome of scientific exploration of scientists of earlier centuries. At no time, man was beaten by problems. He strives continuously to subjugate impossibility and then succeeds.

According to the laws of aerodynamics the bumble bee should never be able to fly. Because of the size, weight, and shape of its body in relationship to the total wing span, flying is scientifically impossible. The bumble bee, being ignorant of scientific theory, goes ahead and flies anyway.

Change is the Law of Universe

Hi huys Let me introduce myself. I am Vivek Chand, doing some computer course in Bangalore. To make India Developed, we have to work together, and not get worried by the terrorists attack. It s better to start with the advice of Lord Krishna as in Bhagavad Gita.
Essence of the Geeta:

Whatever has happened, has happened for good.
Whatever is happening, is happening for good.
Whatever is going to happen, it will be for good.
What have you lost for which you cry?
What did you bring with you, which you have lost?
What did you produce, which has destroyed?
You did not bring anything when you were born.
Whatever you have, you have received from Him.
Whatever you will give, you will give to Him.
You came empty handed and you will go the same way.
Whatever is yours today was somebody else's yesterday and will be somebody else's tomorrow.
SO WHY WORRY UNNECESSARILY?

CHANGE IS THE LAW OF THE THE UNIVERSE

Why do you worry in vain?
Of whom are you afraid?
Who can kill you?
Soul never takes birth, never dies.
You are that soul, you are immortal.
Whatever happened was good.
Whatever is happening is good.
Whatever shall happen will be good.
Don’t lament the past.
Don’t worry about future.
Present is here, take care of it.
What is lost for which you cry?
What you brought with you in this world which is lost?
What is your creation, which is destroyed?
You did not bring anything with you.
Whatever you received was here.
Whatever you give was here.
You received all from God.
You give all to God.
Your hands were empty at birth.
They shall be empty at death.
What is yours today belonged to somebody else yesterday.
What is yours today shall belong to somebody else tomorrow.
You attach yourself unnecessarily which is source of sorrows.
Change is law of nature.
What you consider is death, is life.
In one moment you become owner of millions.
Next moment you become a pauper.
Wash away the feelings of mine-thine, high-low from you mind
Remove them from your thoughts
Then all will belong to you and
You will belong to all.
This body is not yours.
You are not this body.
This body is made of five elements –
Space, air, fire, water and earth.
One day it shall merge in five elements.
Soul is eternal.
You are that soul.
Submit yourself to God
This is the best shelter.
One who knows this shelter never knows –
Fear, worry or sorrow.
Whatever you do submit that to God.
You will experience liberation by doing thus.
